Many travelers ask me “What should I do when I visit Belize?” No how can I answer that, there is just so much this little jewel of a country has to offer. I usually respond,”So, what’s your interest and how much time do you have?” If possible I recommend taking a few weeks to a month and see it all; N to S, E to W and Rain forest to Reef, you won’t be disappointed. it’s easy to get around, jump a puddle jumper, grab a bus, rent a car, you can access it all with ease.
This tiny country of only a little over 300,00 people has much to offer for any one interested in nature, wildlife, birds, tropical plants, jungles, caves, reefs, food, culture, archaeology, mystery, beauty and ahhhh relaxation. That said, I think the people are one of its best attributes. A plethora of diverse cultures make up this tiny county adding to the color, culture, beauty with their rich fabric of life and customs. Maya, Garifuna, Creole, Mestizo, Taiwanese, Chinese, East Indian (who am I forgetting?) Oh yeah British, expats and many, many visitors like you and me.
There are many places to stay along the way, if you want resorts, they have then, if you want to camp or use field stations, the’re there, me I like field stations and boutique hotels like Crystal Paradise. One great reason I like this hotel its Belizean owners. From management, to the guides, the kitchen and grounds, they run it and run it well. So come me with, take a peek at Crystal Paradise , just outside of San Ignacio in western Belize, let’s look at it from a birders perspective and get excited about the journey.
Be and Be Well, Rebecca
